What do you struggle with? Anxiety, loneliness, depression, failure, identity (who you are), purpose (why you’re here), insecurity, anger, scarcity, addiction, guilt, envy, lust, shame, feeling wanted…? Identify at least one of these for this practice.
Ok, so when I sing the 3rd verse of the old hymn Come Thou Fount, “Prone to wander, Lord I feel it, Prone to leave the God I love,” I am really saying, Jesus I admit that I, Tim Timmons, am prone to worry, loneliness, guilt, shame, lust, and scarcity. These are just a few of my major struggles that have shaped me, and the way that I live them out shapes how I live today. All of our struggles and wanderings are rooted in Fear. Fear of not getting enough, being enough, or not being seen and understood. The fear of being unsafe and uncomfortable, not belonging on a soul level, etc.
The basis of our basic human design starts off with us being attached to each other. Literally, when we are born into this crazy world, we are tethered to someone’s very bloodstream. This is why that bond is so important and takes years of soul work to find healing for so many adopted kids.
What does it mean to really belong to someone? Not in a slave sort of way that’s related to what you can do to earn your belonging, but in a deeper soul level where there’s nothing you can do but embrace who you are. I BELONG NO MATTER WHAT! To truly belong is to be claimed, wanted and chosen on both a body and soul level.
What do our struggles look like if we were to live like we BELONGed to JESUS and His Kingdom all day long, No Matter What, even on our worst day? Seriously, put that idea, concept, truth over any of your struggles, and you will see it through a different lens. We are going to be talking about this concept of Belonging for the next few weeks because this has changed the way I am walking through my struggles.
